There’s nothing better than warm, fresh dinner rolls with melted butter. My family loves these soft and fluffy buns, and they’re perfect for tea, as a side dish, or with just about anything. This recipe is incredibly simple and only requires four ingredients!

Dinner Rolls

Serving Size:
12 rolls
Time:
2 hours
Difficulty:
Beginner

Ingredients

  • 3 cups flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon dry yeast
  • 2 cups warm water (adjust as needed)
  • 2 Tablespoons cooking oil

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, and dry yeast.
  2. Make a small well in the center and pour in about 2 cups of warm water. Adjust the water amount to create a shaggy dough.
  3. Mix all the ingredients together, then slowly knead the dough for about 10 minutes. Be sure to fold the dough while kneading.
  4. If the dough is too sticky, add 1 to 2 tablespoons of flour. You can also add 1 to 2 tablespoons of oil to make it easier to form a ball.
  5. When you poke the dough and it bounces back, it’s ready. Cover and let it rise for 30-45 minutes or until it has doubled in size.
  6. Punch out the air and knead for another 1-2 minutes.
  7. Divide the dough into equal pieces. This batch makes 12 rolls, depending on your preferred size.
  8. Grease a baking pan with butter or cooking oil, then place the rolls in the pan.
  9. Cover and let them rise for another 30 minutes or until they double in size.
  10. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) and bake for 25-30 minutes.
  11. Mix 2 teaspoons of sugar with 1 tablespoon of water to create a thick syrup.
  12. The buns are done when the tops are a rich golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  13. Brush the sugar mixture over the tops of the warm buns to give them a glossy, slightly sweet finish.
